Sorento via Pompai

Up at 6am for a big breakfast and of course an ESPRESSO! On the couch straight to Sorento but first stopping at Pampai. We had a guided tour of the old city and learnt a lot of the history. We saw the volcano that erupted in 79AD and covered the city in 4-5m of ash killing thausands of people.

We walked around the old city really getting a feel of how life would have been back then, including many businesses ie bakeries, fast food, brothels etc. The most shocking of course was seeing the bodies of the people and a dog frozen in time at the moment that they died from the volcanoe, the expression still on their faces.
Picturesque views on the way to Sorento.
We stayed right on the beach with an amazing view of the sunset! Another WOW moment feeling like i'm on proper holidays for the first time this trip.
My roomies for the entire Italy tour
Then on to enjoy a pizza party!!! The best pizza ever. Margarita of course that was invented as it incorporates the colours of the Italian flag and was named after the Queen Margarita. YUM!!!!
After pizza a few drinks at a local bar and getting to know the group a little more. But still bed by midnight as there was another early start the next day.

I agree Pompeii is so interesting - and sad! I remember having a big moment seeing the wheel ruts in the street and realising how old they were and that REAL people had been involved with them. Also how horrible the volcano was!
