15 hour ferry ride with hundreds of people sleeping on the floor in the lounge seats (nothing fancy about lounge), crying babies, loud Greek people talking as the Greeks do, group of middle aged men drinking and laughing at the top of their heads, rude worker poking me very hard every time we stopped to make me get up... I arrived in ATHENS!!! 3 hours on a bus and a lot of helpful people with their broken English, I arrived at my hostel, and slept...
I woke early the next day excited to see the city and soak in some history. First was Panathenaic Stadium, the fist Olympic stadium EVER in 330 BC.
Then a stroll through the Royal National Garden commissioned by Queen Amalia in 1838.
Then on to the Zappion congress and exhibitions hall which was a parliament house back in the day where lot of important stuff was discussed and law and religion was concocted it was also used in 1896 Olympics for the fencing and other indoor events.
THEN another stroll to the Temple of Olympian Zeus 131 AD, the largest of the ancient Greek temples containing 104 columns of which only 15 remain standing. Pretty amazing construction and baffles me how they did it back then.
THEN on to the Acropolis Museum, where a lot of archeologist findings from the Acropolis are housed. Pretty amazing that they have found such small items like small toys stone carvings, to large rock carvings and statues. Was very interesting hearing the stories of the past and the sometimes extremely crazy stories of the gods.

| Hehe! |
 |
| huh? I would have liked to whiteness this. |
Then to the ACROPOLIS itself. Amazing views of Athens from here I wanted to stay and wait for sunset though it would have been a while. The Acropolis was very grand though covered in construction.
 |
| Still functional amphitheatre on the site, though under construction so nothing was playing. |
 |
| Thats a tomb under the statues. |

| Theatre of Dionysos, FIRST ever theatre! |

| View of Athens from Acropolis |
I hit the streets of PLAKA after the Acropolis to check out a flea market and have a pita bread kind of souvlaki kabab for 2 euro YUM! I found the new contemporary buildings and graffiti from modern day life mixed in with such old historic ruins so interesting, most locals seam to take it for granted, even seeing local people carrying out their daily exercise in the first Olympic stadiums etc.

Hadrian built a lot of things. Don't you remember Hadrian's wall in Scotland built to separate the Romans from the northern Scottish barbarians. Some great history for you to soak up Kez. Nice runners too!
I can just hear that Greek music in the background as you describe your time there! This is a great travel blog!
Looking very sporty! It's all so Greek!
